One of the biggest surf competitions in Canada, the Rip Curl National Championships, is where national champions are crowned and where many athletes are selected for the Canadian surf team. From there, surfers can go on to compete internationally, including events like the World Juniors and even pathways toward Olympic qualification.
The event takes place at Cox Bay, May 8-10th 2026 and draws both Canadian and international athletes, making it one of the premier surf events in the country.
In each heat, four surfers compete in the water for 20 minutes, catching as many waves as possible.
