Tofino, BC \u2013 Each year, Tofino\u2019s Queen of the Peak<\/strong> has become an iconic event for women in surfing, combining competition, community, and local culture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

. Starting back in 2009, the contest was born out of a desire to create an event that would cater to the unique needs of women surfers. With Tofino being home to one of the highest concentrations of female surfers in the world, event founders Mike and Krissy Montgomery, from Surf Sister, wanted to create a celebration that would make women feel truly special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What started as a two-day event quickly grew into a highly anticipated three-day competition, now in its seventh year. Attracting competitors from a range of backgrounds and skill levels, Queen of the Peak<\/strong> has become one of the largest women\u2019s surf competitions in North America. Each year, it boasts a cash prize pool, and participants get to experience the beauty of Tofino and its surrounding surf spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competitors are a diverse group: from young talents like the 12-year-old Billabong-sponsored surfer, who\u2019s on the track for the Olympics, to mothers balancing family life with their love for the sport. This range of ages and experiences shows the broad appeal of the event\u2014there truly isn\u2019t an “average” surfer, just women united by their love of the ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the event continues to evolve, its goal remains to grow women\u2019s surfing, create a supportive community, and put the beautiful surf town of Tofino on the map for female surfers. In addition to the main competition, the event has added unique amenities and services designed to make every woman feel welcome and valued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
