When most people think of surfing, Canada isn’t the first place that comes to mind. But today SBC SURF is here to introduce the Pacific shores of British Columbia
West Coast: The Birthplace of Canadian Surfing
The west coast is home to Canada’s most well-known surf destinations, with Tofino and Ucluelet leading the charge. These towns on Vancouver Island offer consistent waves year-round, with winter bringing powerful swells that attract advanced surfers.
- Tofino: Often called Canada’s surf capital, Tofino is known for its long beach breaks, vibrant surf community, and world-class cold-water waves. Cox Bay, Chesterman Beach, and Long Beach are some of the best-known spots.
- Ucluelet: Just south of Tofino, “Ukee” offers a quieter alternative with equally impressive waves. Wickaninnish Beach and Florencia Bay provide great conditions for those willing to explore.
